Steer Sets Record Price in Chicago Yards
Aug. 1 Dakota range steer from James Philip, raised west of Pierre, sold in Chicago yards for 110.20 after weighing 1520 pounds. Purchaser was G. H. Jaynes. The animal, fed no grain, cost about 6 dollars a year to raise, indicating Dakota grass value in beef.

Tornado Strikes Clearwater Minnesota Area
A cyclone formed about three miles west of Clearwater at 4 p.m. Saturday passed north of the village and devastated a large strip of countryside. No loss of life reported though several residents were blown down and grain damaged. A. W. Robbins’s field of grain and other crops were blown toward the Mississippi river.

Third Death From Bullets In Iowa Family Tragedy
New Hampton Iowa August 13 Ray Bowers aged about twenty two years committed death by own action by shooting himself through the right temple. Earlier in the same family a brother Edward C. Bowers aged nineteen died May 18 1805 from a bullet wound in the head and a father J C Bowers died November 25 1867 from a gunshot wound in the head with mystery surrounding the cause.

Protective Labor League Expands into Minnesota
The United Protective Labor League plans to extend its organization into Minnesota with national headquarters in Washington. W. A. Dion, formerly of Warren in Marshall County, is appointed organizer for Minnesota and will travel to St. Paul and Minneapolis. The group aims to prevent strikes by labor unions.
