Land opening draws hundreds to public filing

In a district land opening hundreds queued for filing as windows opened. Marie Owen led a line of six women including Miss Hitt Maude Bell Cary Stronkey Cora Barnfather and Kate Ray. Crowds grew past midnight with 150 in line and 300 present in the morning. Mayor Denny appointed eight special police to maintain order during the filing. Continued on page 4.

Williston Defeats All Stars In Lopsided Baseball Tilt

Williston, shorthanded by three players, outslugged the All Stars 11 to 3 Tuesday evening. Billy Harvey pitched for Williston while Luddie hurled for the Stars. Williston scored five runs in the first inning and kept the pressure on, with Nutt making key plays at second and Jackson dropping a pop foul to spark the offense. The All Stars managed unearned runs in the first and a second-inning rally, but Harvey held them to four hits while Luddie allowed 14. The Stars plan to strengthen their roster before their upcoming tour.

Withdrawn townships from public domain in irrigation land action

Word from the U S Land Office directs withdrawal of fifteen townships from settlement. Some were listed for irrigation but opened for filing yesterday. Land is under review for coal deposits. Many eastern filers were disappointed to find their selections withdrawn. Townships listed include T 163-93, T 162-93, T 155-94, T 154-97, 100,101, T 158-98, 99, 100, T 152-93, T 151-100, T 150-101, T 149-101.

Williston Defeats Ross in 13-6 Baseball Victory

Williston beat Ross 13 to 6 in a Sunday baseball game. Williston led early with two runs in the second and three in the fourth, then exploded for six runs in the seventh and two in the eighth to seal victory. Ross scored three in the ninth to finish at six. The win keeps Williston hopeful for a Tioga-Tagus tie.

County Republican Central Committee Named at Court House

Delegates at the recent Republican state convention named a 25 member county central committee in place of 16. The group will meet Saturday at 3 PM in the court house to elect officers. Commissioner Seeks County Grain and Grass Samples

North Dakota Commissioner C Gilbreath calls for a statewide 1906 crop sample collection. J W Jackson will manage mail, farmers deliver to Williston Land Company for exhibition purposes. Samples must be carefully selected and packed for shipment to Bismarck to best advertise the county.

Statewide grain and grass exhibition prize offer

A permit drawing prize plan invites county collectors to assemble a choice selection of grains and grasses for shipment to the department by August 20 1906. Prizes range from 3200 to 1000 with paid express shipping and careful packing advised to prevent mold or mildew during transit.
