Church services listed and town board tackles fines and payroll matters.
The Williston Special School District board met in Williston North Dakota on July 30 1896. Trustees Leonhardy Freeman and Sharp attended. Heffernan was absent. The body discussed notifying the Town Board about bond failures by the town treasurer and urged vacancy declaration and appointment of a new treasurer. A vacancy on the board remains after W I McChesney declined to qualify. H E Field was appointed to fill it. A committee of Freeman Sharp and Heffernan was formed to seek extra rooms for primary and intermediate departments and report next meeting. The meeting adjourned.
At the Great Northern hotel Williston serves as a temporary hub for agents and representatives from various live stock commission firms and railroads. Attending are T. A. Mathews of Benton for Twin City Stock Yards New Brighton, Mino. John H. Kelly of Chicago for Rosenbaum Bros. & Co.. W. T. Swan of St. Paul as live stock agent for C. B. & M. RR. J. S. Scott of Chicago for Rosenbaum Bros. & Co.. Capt. Nicholson for C., M. & St. P. RR. B. W. Terrett of Great Falls for G. & N. W. RR. J. A. Burnett for South St. Paul Stock Yards.
A dated letter from L W Allen of the North American Live Stock Commission Co Chicago Aug 1 discusses current receipts totaling about 1 100 head of range cattle from the Dakotas and Texas. It forecasts a lively season with cattle prices firm aided by a good corn crop and rains in the belt. It lists sale prices and averages for Dakota Texas and Wisconsin Sea Dakota Texas Texas cattle, with quantities and values noted.
Town Treasurer submits the six month financial report to Wylie ton Williston North Dakota. Receipts include justice of the peace funds and county treasurer transfers totaling 302 dollars. Expenditures cover printing election street surveying sidewalks incidental expenses and dog taxes among others totaling 302 dollars. Warrants outstanding and issued during the quarter are listed with reductions from redemptions totaling 85069 dollars.
The undersigned Laying purchased the Townsite of Williston from the Patentee the St Paul Minneapolis 4 Manitoba Railway Company notify all occupants who have not bought to remove forthwith. Those removing buildings or fences will be prosecuted. Occupants may purchase the lots within one month at appraised prices plus five dollars per month rent from June 25 1898. Lessee occupants must pay rentals to Judge Emil Leonhardy agent for receipts and sale of lots. Trespassers warned to avoid ejectment costs. George Purvis Williston N D July 7 1898.
