Doctor Strong Anxious To Go To War

Dr Thomas J Strong of Williston was rejected for admission to the national guard medical corps when drafted to the Mexican border last summer due to a hernia. He underwent successful surgery at St Johns hospital and hopes to be re- screened for service in Germany. Clyde Noel returned from Minneapolis late in the week.

Officers Wanted For Regular Army Training Camps

J. W. Jackson announced Fort Snelling Training camp opens in May for Williston men seeking reserve officer training. Three month course, up to 2 500 attendees per camp, oath for three months, potential reserve corps appointment. Williston Auxiliary reports strong turnout and weekly drills, urging universal military training and urging Congress to pass universal service act with support from Congressman Norton.

Accident Ends Life of Hamlet Man at Work Site

Gustav Langstrom age 25 of Hamlet was killed when a rock hoisting lever slipped striking him in the jaw. Coroner Distad and County Attorney Owens ruled the death accidental after an inquiry. Langstrom's brother resides in LaCrosse Wisconsin with other relatives in Europe.

Band To Render Patriotic Program Again Next Sunday

Williston concert band under Prof A Onstad presents a patriotic program at the Armory next Sunday afternoon. The lineup features High School Boys Glee Club, Violinists Edna Coulter Beulah LaBerge and pianist Ollie Halvorson, with Laura Cooper directing. The audience will sing along with America and the Star Spangled Banner.

Williston May Get Knights Templar Commandery

At the Fargo Grand Commandery meeting next Tuesday and Wednesday, talks focus on establishing a Williston commandery. North Dakota Knights Templar report a net state gain of 97 members this year, bringing total to 1,746, with Jamestown’s Wi h aha Commandery leading gains. Grand Commander Frank White of Valley City will preside, and Arthur R. Molyneaux of Cherokee Iowa serves as inspecting officer for the North Dakota conclave.

Hamre adds Van Antwerp stock to his Broad Way rooms giving him the largest furniture stock in the area. He also received a carload of new furniture and intends to keep Wil Liston in front lines in furniture. Plans to add a second floor to his building may follow when conditions improve.

Williams county should do her part and take load to help win the war. Labor is the limiting factor in crop production, and money is available from Federal Reserve Banks and Farm Loan System with local bankers ready to assist. Plan diversified farming, seed corn for livestock feed, and not overextend small grains despite risks of dry conditions.

Cultivate Waste Lands Near Buford for 1000 Acres

The Reclamation Office advertises unentered lands, townsite reserves, and adjacent withdrawn lands in twenty tracts for four years at nominal rent. They may consolidate or farm on contract if needed, with aim to lease to nearby owners first and possibly break and irrigate later. Over 200 acres near Buford are already cultivated. 1000 more acres hoped for this year. Spring wheat seeding by May 1–10, with oats two weeks later. Formaldehyde treatment advised for seed to prevent smut. Potatoes planted in May mature for storage. June plantings good for seed. Corn for grain in May, forage by June. Beans after warm ground. May seeding. Millets and sorghum for forage after June 15. Stock market noted as key, with advice to avoid selling stock prematurely. prices expected to rise. At a Williston Chapter Red Cross membership committee meeting a campaign for Friday and Saturday was set. With all residents eligible, members will do home work to recruit, aiming for 1000 members to boost the city and aid the nation.
