Leopold Vanburen chief petty officer of the United States battleship Philadelphia lost both feet just above the ankles when Train No. 2 of the Great Northern bore him under its wheels in DeviLs Lake North Dakota. He was en route from the Pacific coast to New York and was hospitalized after the accident.
Secretary Smith of the Commercial Club reports a letter from Minneapolis brokers stating they plan to arrive at 6 40 Monday evening May 23. The party will consist mainly of wholesale merchants from Minneapolis. Mrs Lenore Mores, recent Granville piano teacher, will organize a piano class and will be at the Great Northern upon her return Monday for inquiries.
Washington April 19. Senators Newlands Owen and others argued over river policy and funding. Burton challenged a 1 million dollar Missouri river improvement from Kansas City to the mouth, while Newlands defended navigation to Fort Benton and a Pittsburg to Montana waterway. The Missouri paragraph was approved and the bill remained pending at adjournment.
In recent days Citi zens National Bank announced resignations and promotions. George Schlenker left as assistant cashier to become cashier at Citizens State Bank of Culbertson. George Harvey was promoted to Schlenker’s former role. Frank Ovesen left for a new Chinook Montana bank as cashier. O M Opdahl becomes assistant cashier. John Webber from Barlow North Dakota fills Harvey’s bookkeeping post.
