Winter Weather and Rail Disruptions Hit Willard in 1951
In early February 1951 Willard endured heavy snow six to eight inches and temperatures falling to minus 17. The city, like much of Ohio, faced emergencies, with schools closed as buses could not run and gas companies restricting heating. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad ended a nine to ten day switchmen strike, restoring freight and mail service though a derailment in West Virginia diverted trains to Willard. A 33 year old B&O worker was wounded in a knife fight at a railroad labor camp on North Main Street.
