Tragic School Trip Ends in Fatal Collision in Whitewright
A group of twenty three Sherman high students returning from a Greenville game were shaken as a school truck crashed into a curb on Bond Street. Fourteen year old John Noel Totten died en route to hospital. Brother Jerry Totten was injured and others sustained cuts and bruises. Driver Freeman, in another vehicle, was charged with murder and weapons violations as investigators link the crash to speeding and a collision with the truck. The accident marks Whitewrights first fatal in the business district since autos arrived.

Insurance suit seeks higher Alvarado taxes to cover bonds
Abraham Lincoln Insurance Co. files in Dallas a suit to force Alvarado Texas to raise its tax rate 60 cents per $100 to cover $3934.50 due on bonds from 1923 to 1934 and to collect delinquent taxes. It claims the city failed to keep a separate sinking fund for bond payments and that income was mingled. The company holds street improvement waterworks and school repair bonds.
