The Texas Industrial Congress plans prizes next year for best yields on at least five acres of wheat oats barley and possibly rice. The move aims to reduce cotton acreage, boost winter pasture, and provide inexpensive feed amid high European demand, with seed from well tested local crops.
A local editorial lauds Carlisle Military Institute and Grayson College heritage, praising the institute as a homegrown path to higher education, civic elevation, and cost savings. It argues the region benefits from strong faculty, personal attention to students, and two years of university-level coursework within a local setting.
L. C. Smith applies in county court to probate Charley Smith late of Whitewright who died Sept 10 1914 leaving an estate valued around 10000. The will gives O A Smith 40 acres while the remainder of real and personal property goes to L C Smith who is named administrator.
City police picked up an unknown white man at Union depot, likely of unsound mind, and he was turned over to county officials. A lunacy commission, led by Judge J. Adamson, named him John Doe after he could not answer questions. the doctors recommended he be sent to the Terrell insane asylum. Deputies retrieved William Alred from Denison for lunacy trial in Sherman, not yet tried.
The grand jury reports assembling on the first Monday in August, examining 344 witnesses over fourteen days, and returning true bills: 109 felonies and 20 misdemeanors. They recessed to September 8 and have continued in session to date.

Judge Quentin D. Corley of Dallas County Court with no arms will guide Frank Coleman aged thirteen from Temple on life without arms. He will learn to drive, eat, write and operate a horse using devices invented by the judge. The boy studies law and sought his instruction by city attorney request. The armless judge has gained nationwide fame in recent years.
