German Interest Is In American Tariff
Washington Sept 21 German business leaders in Berlin monitor tariff legislation and fear disaster if the Fordney tariff bill passes. Former Rep James L Slayden of San Antonio, back from Europe, cites Germany’s need for American cotton copper and foodstuffs but warns their money is nearly worthless and with no metal currency only small silver coins remain usable. He says Germans work long hours but wages are low and minor tariff changes could push Europe toward bankruptcy and potential chaos or revolution.
