A Whitewright meeting at 7:45 PM Thursday in the American Legion hall aims to decide if a fall trade inducement program will be adopted. Tuesday’s turnout was small, but enthusiasm grows for boosting local trade, with free money gifts discussed as a past model and to be voted on if enough members attend.
A new traffic code sections limit following fire apparatus and crossing fire hose. Section 100 prohibits drivers not on official business from following firefighting units within five hundred feet or parking within the block where apparatus stops. Section 101 forbids driving over an unprotected fire hose without the fire department command approval.
Grady Ellis, secretary of Grayson County Farm Loan Association, filed a $26,100 damages suit in Fifty-ninth District Court against John Earl Jacques and D. C. Jacques of Denison for injuries allegedly suffered August 2 at Woodlawn Golf Club. Ellis, an officer of Woodlawn Club, was attacked while with his wife during an inventory with the club manager. He claims jaw fractures, tooth loss, shock, and head and neck lacerations, seeking $15,000 real damages, $10,000 exemplary damages, $600 medical expenses, and $500 additional costs. Webb, Elliott and Rogers of Sherman represent the plaintiff.
Texas Burial Insurance Board approved new standard rates after a hearing with 93 of 454 associations represented. Rates range from 8c per month for under sixteen to 3.65 per month for ninety year olds, with 25c per month per 100 for a fifty year old. A note on using fruit juices to soak and cook dried fruits was also included.
About forty boys girls and ex service men from Whitewright and nearby areas leave this week or soon to enroll in colleges across Texas and beyond. Names list students at East Texas State Teachers College North Texas Agricultural College Lubbock Tech Hardin Simmons University of Texas and more including Roby Wilson Guy Andrew and Wallace Reeves among others.
The VFW Auxiliary held its regular meeting Monday night and set plans for a Halloween Carnival on October 10. A special meeting will be held next Monday at 7 o clock, and every member is urged to attend.
Bonham awaits the Fannin County Fair with a two night horse show on October 1 and 2 announced by Charles A. Jones secretary and general manager. The fair opens September 30 with a downtown parade led by Rep. Sam Rayburn of Bonham and features the Denison High School Band the Bonham High School Band and Hal Norton's Texas Roundup Band. Twenty two horse show classes are planned with support from Denton and McKinney horsemen. the event is sponsored by the Bonham Roundup Club.
Washington report notes Native American white women aged 25 show higher fertility than since 1910 with 958 births per 1000 for the 1921 cohort by age 25. Comparisons cite 885 for 1915 19 and 864 for 1910 14, while 1900 04 reached 1 068. Whelpton attributes the rise to postponed births during the Depression and predicts a return to a long-term downward trend soon.
Up to Thursday morning 452 bales of cotton had been ginned in Whitewright, vs 207 a year earlier. Prices show cotton at 33 cents per pound, seed at $85 per ton, with corn at 2.25 a bushel white and 1.85 yellow. Farmers market corn, cotton pickers in demand, gins running late, and pickers earning from 8 to 12 dollars daily.
Paul Simpson manager for Lone Star Gas Company Whitewright to be transferred to Honey Grove effective September 22. He will be succeeded by W. R. Milam of Bonham storekeeper for the Bonham office. Milam is married with a twelve year old daughter and will move to Whitewright when a dwelling is rented.
Milwaukee County intends to request repayments from former relief recipients whose finances have improved. The new policy uses the Community Fund family budget to assess capacity to repay, allowing personal expenses and insurance premiums. Repayment not required if it would cause hardship.
Sherman Grayson County Strawn sand discovery area near Sherman prepares for another exploration Tuesday, No. 1 H. H. Roberts well location 330 feet south and east of the H&TC Railroad on an 18.6 acre tract. Proposed depth 4,000 feet to test Standard of Texas No. 1 Covey-Bates. Also notes spudding the pool’s confirmation test No. 1 Rising McAnair survey, H. L. Hunt No. 1 McCullough. Also includes a knife sharpening caution.
Announcement states a series of evangelistic services starting Wednesday night September 24 at Central Christian Church. James L. Sandlin, pastor of the Greenville church, will lead each evening including Saturday. Sandlin is known in Whitewright for last year’s revival and for wartime talks. He served as chaplain at Perrin Field over a year.
The Texas Highway Department plans ahead clearance on the Whitewright Ida Sherman farm to market road, with construction set to start soon. Workmen move fences back to the right of way as prep, the all weather road will be state maintained and serve farmers, school buses, and rural mail routes near Whitewright.
Gov Jester announced Fire Prevention Week will run October 5 through 11 urging civic and school groups to promote safety. State figures show about 465 annual Texas fire deaths with Marvin Hall noting nearly 600 cities actively supporting programs and many cities cutting fire losses by about 50 percent. Oatmeal with molasses in water is suggested as an iron rich cereal option.

Texans flock to the State Fair of Texas as entries soar in the Agricultural and Livestock Shows plus new exhibits. With two weeks to opening, Junior Livestock Show entries climb to 1,315 animals from 4-H and FFA youths across 90 counties and 57 communities.
