Creek Pollution Set To End With New Sewage Plant

Old Whitewright sewage pits empty into bois arc creek causing pollution. First construction equipment for a modern plant was unloaded Tuesday. Plans approved by federal agencies, completion in 120 days. Whitewright contract awarded to Shellenberger Inc designed by Rady and Associates. New plant will serve until 4500 population with expandable capacity and meet drinking water standards. City employee Dorsey Brooks praises expected creek revival. Police Blotter Warns of New Ignition Fine

Police report an upsurge in car thefts prompting a new $7.50 fine for leaving keys in ignitions. Over the past week authorities issued many citations mainly for speeding and reckless driving totaling $110.50. By Aug 30 courts will add a $2.50 fee to misdemeanor fines for the criminal justice planning fund.

Tigers Fall Behind as Farmers Rally in Second Half

Whitewright’s Tigers led 12-0 in the third quarter but Farmersville QB Barry Pollard sparked a comeback with a sharp passing attack. Pollard connected for multiple scores as Farmersville overtook Whitewright 25-12, with key plays by Marvin Arteberry and Dean Coker. The Tigers host Howe next Friday.

Two-Car Head-On Collision Claims Whitewright Man and Trenton Woman

A Saturday afternoon head-on collision on Highway 69 killed Charlie C. McLean Jr., 25, of Whitewright and Maudie Elaine Newman, 51, of Trenton. Newman died later at a Denison hospital. McLean died at the scene. Injured was Jimmy Lane Newman, 23, of Trenton. Newman, the passenger in her son’s car, was in fair condition at Sherman Community Hospital. The McLean vehicle traveled south while Newman’s car went north before the crash. Funeral arrangements note on page 6.

Whitewright Junior Teams Top Blue Ridge Varsity in Weekend Play

Whitewright Junior Varsity beat Blue Ridge 12 to 6 on Saturday with a screen pass TD from Gary Wortham to Ricky Newman and a Newman two yard TD run. Blue Ridge scored on a blocked punt return in the third. Eighth graders defeated Farmersville 16 to 8 with Blanton, Kimball, and Caraway keying the drive. seventh graders hammered Farmers 22 to 0. Junior high to play Howe at 5 30 today under coach Howard Hodge.

Punt Pass and Kick Qualifier Sponsored by Local Ford Dealer

Whitewright youths ages eight to thirteen will start the Punt Pass and Kick local competition on October 2. Bob Meisenbach partners with Ford for local events, with national PP&E co sponsored by the NFL and Ford Dealers of America. Twelve national finalists will compete in New Orleans during halftime of the 1972 Super Bowl. Winners enter the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.
