In Jacksonville Florida a mob of about fifty stormed the city jail after midnight freeing two black men charged with murdering George Dubose a white man. The crowd hanged them dragged the bodies through streets and dumped one body in front of a hotel. The other remained unfound as dawn broke and Sheriff investigations continued.
A posse searched for members of the mob but no arrests were reported. Authorities continued efforts to locate those involved as investigations proceed.

The Sears Grain Company advances a large corn plant east of the ice house with a 36 by 72 foot warehouse and 20 foot walls holding about 20 000 bushels. A 36 by 45 foot mill and machinery room and a 40 by 46 foot shelter will be iron clad. An elevator for 75 000 bushels is planned for spring. Manager Cantrell says the warehouse will be ready when the corn is dry. Electric motors will run elevators and dumps to speed unloading. The project is a major asset for Whitewright and nearby areas.
The first of the season’s cotton arrived Friday with E S Atterberry from near Westminster delivering the initial bale sold for 30 cents bringing 120.00. G L McCloy supplied the second bale sold for 29 cents bringing 165.20. Both bales bought by Mr Cantrell of Sears Grain Co. Farmers began picking this week as gins prepare for busy days.
William Morton Savage of Whitewright died aboard the battleship Mexico during a fire in San Francisco Bay. A former Navy man of four years, he re enlisted and lost his life in a rescue attempt, with burial plans pending back home in Whitewright.
In Chicago William F. Tanner a B&O cashier embraced his wife as her foot was caught by a railroad frog and both were killed when a Chicago & Northwestern limited train struck them. Flagman John Miller lost a leg and arm in a rescue attempt leaving three children orphaned. The couple had been en route to a suburban picture show when the tragedy occurred.
William R Johns died at his home in east Whitewright Sunday evening after a several months long illness. Born in Tennessee on July 30, 1849, he came to Texas as a young man and settled southeast of town. He built a substantial estate valued at over $60 through hard work and thrift before moving to town years ago.
A longtime community member described as a good citizen and neighbor. He aided young men with financial help to buy homes and was active in the Methodist church. Survived by his wife and three children W L Johns Mrs J E Latham and Mrs Anderson. Funeral Tuesday at 10 at the family home with ministers presiding. interment at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs Lillian Cooper longtime Burleson College art instructor will lead the Wright Public School art department this session. She plans an exhibit of her work at the school on opening day next Wednesday inviting all interested in art to view the display.
