Cotton Forecast Up Nearly Million Bales Over August

The Department of Agriculture raised the 1941 cotton production estimate by 943000 bales to 14028000. Sept 1 lint yield was 289.3 pounds per acre the highest in industry history, surpassing 269.9 from 1937. Acreage harvested cited at 23273000 with July 1 cultivated area 23544000.

Rain totals halt cotton picking in Whitewright area

Whitewright and parts of Fannin County received 3.71 inches of rain over three days with .61 inches Sunday and 1.60 Sunday night. Open cotton suffered minor damage while a Leonard windstorm uprooted trees and unroofed houses. M D Honaker of Community Public Service Co reported extensive wire damage.

Childress, owner of Childress Pharmacy, has resided in Whitewright about 20 years and fills the unexpired term of R. T. Pennington who resigned after moving to Sherman.

President bans double time holiday pay

President Roosevelt signed an executive order eliminating double time rates for work on Saturday Sunday or holidays. Double time remains for a seventh consecutive day but not for any specific weekday. The White House cited union pledges and said many unions already modified the practice to make it universal.

Aid to Dependent Children Funds Cut for September

Austin reports September aid to dependent children totals 217,662 dollars for 20,504 recipients representing 42,263 children. The cut stems from a 1.5 million dollar annual limit. total welfare payments with federal funds rise to 3 million annually. Proration occurs if money runs short. Seventy four percent of these children have lost a parent, mostly living with a mother.
