The Texas Capitol, shaped as a Greek cross with a central rotunda and dome, was built from 1882 to 1888 at a cost of 3,000,000 acres of land, now valued around 60,000,000. Architect E. E. Myers and contractor Abner Taylor oversaw construction. the building spans 528 by 290 feet, rises 311 feet to the dome, and houses 392 rooms, 18 vaults, 924 windows, and 404 doors.
