The 13-year-old stepson of Ab Roach, living two miles south of Nobility, died at home after a scuffle with a nearby young relative. The incident left the boy with a fractured neck from his head striking a dresser. Authorities reported the accident as the cause of death.

Government experts project a total U S cotton crop of 16 098 000 bales for the year, up 505 000 bales from August estimates. Texas leads gains with 308 000 more bales, and yield per acre is forecast at 228 5 pounds, the highest on record. Abandonment expected at 1 3 percent, production to day 1 871 403 ginned.
Washington Secretary of Agriculture Henry A. Wallace said he expects continued growth in world cotton production outside the United States. J R Oliver showed thirteen registered Jersey cattle and seven Duroc Jersey hogs at Lamar County fair Paris this week. He captured sixteen cattle first prizes six championships premier breeder and premier exhibitor with 65 dollars in cash. All seven hogs earned seven first prizes. He plans to enter similar numbers at Red River Valley fair in October then attend the state Jersey show and sale at Denton. He forecasts a good year for feeders with low feed costs and notes cottonseed meal and hulls prices dropping.

In Nottingham exiled German economist Herman Levy urged Britain to emulate Switzerland and curb burial costs. He said the high price of dying is exorbitant and should be state controlled, citing Swiss practice where burials are government managed. Patsy Ruth Hill, age 1, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Hill, died in a local hospital Tuesday morning from injuries after being run over by a truck at her Rock Creek home near Gordonville. The father backed the truck from the garage unaware of the child. she suffered head injuries and a broken arm. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Mount Zion Church, twelve miles north of Whitesboro.

Superintendent H W Key announced teacher assignments for Whitewright Public Schools in readiness for the Monday, Sept 13 start. New hires include Tom Cunningham and Kathryn Roddy at the High School and Opal Press at the Grammar School, with detailed staffing across grades and new courses in home economics and manual training.
The state plans a first per capita payment of 22 dollars under the new apportionment, with potential 5 dollar per child totals if textbooks demand higher funding. Census estimates show up to 5,000 more scholastics, boosting total pupils to about 1,565,000 statewide.
