The rate remains the same as the past two years with a slight budget increase, and was approved after a public hearing. The 77 cents funds four operating areas while 34 cents goes to debt service on a total valuation of 17,958,600.

Everything is ready for the opening of school on Tuesday September 6 with a full faculty. Buses will run Tuesday morning leaving here at 7 15 to pick up students from Whitewright in all directions. Dismissal at noon is expected and regular classes start Wednesday. Raymond Guire named social studies teacher and basketball coach replacing Jack Newsom who resigned. He will drive a bus if state approval for a fourth bus is granted.
Dr. C. L. Lundell of the Texas Research Foundation warned that within two generations North Texas Blackland Belt farmers could lose arable land without stronger soil conservation. He spoke during a Renner tour for four farm and ranch clubs, urging action to save Blackland soil.
The Whitewright 4-H Club girls earned a special award for summer work. The county council plans a day trip to Texoma State Park on Friday September 2. The group will assemble at 8 am at the Presbyterian Church and lunch is provided. Leaders listed include Mrs. Lee Smith and others. Eighteen girls attended weekly sessions, with eleven showing dresses in Sherman earning ribbons Ruth Elaine Williams took first place Janet Smith second in the junior division.
