State Health Conditions and Facilities Hit
State Health Department officials told nurses at the Nurse Institute that Texas health conditions and hospital facilities are a challenge. Dr. Fred Helm cited high death rates from diarrhea diphtheria typhoid tuberculosis and malaria and noted Texas has the sixth highest infant mortality. Norman Roberts said beds are fewer than expected with 53 counties lacking a nursing home and 29 without a doctor. The survey aims to justify $4.842 million yearly for five years under Burton Hill for health facilities.
