Local children collect coins for UNICEF at First Methodist Church at 5:30 p m on Sunday then canvass homes to raise funds for global child welfare. UNICEF supports mother and child health, family centers, and over 500 programs worldwide and aims to combat poverty, disease, and ignorance.
The United Fund totals yesterday stood at 1225 01, under half of the 2500 goal. In the past week 151 46 was turned in with 81 50 raised by the Colored Community committee led by Millie Ann Hunt Nettle Blanton Pauline Topsy and Thelma Jo Walker. Millie Ann chaired a home meeting with 22 attendees and refreshments. Mrs Hunt said every approached giver contributed something. The group hopes for a stronger showing next year.

Funeral services were held for 55 year old Joseph Edward Ross at Earn heart funeral chapel with Rev. Raymond Hall and Rev. Stanley Shannon presiding. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Monday at 5 20 p m at his home in Ector. He was born November 13 1909 in Orangeville and married Jessie Lee Brookins in Durant Oklahoma. Survivors include his wife a son Joe Charles Ross three sisters and one granddaughter.
Graveside services were held at Burns Cemetery in Trenton for the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Me Holmes of Trenton. Born late Wednesday in a Sherman hospital, the premature baby lived only a few hours. Survivors include the parents, paternal grandmother Mrs. G. C. Hodge of Bonham, and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Newby of Greenville.
W. W. Ayers 52 of Route 2 Sherman died last Thursday night. Funeral and burial were held in Sherman Saturday. He was born December 21 1912 at Nobility, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Ayers. He married Hattie Briggs in Durant March 30 1930. Survivors include his wife one daughter his mother seven brothers five sisters and two grandchildren.
Luther V. Pitman 65 of Trenton died Saturday in a Bonham hospital. A retired State Highway Department employee, he was born November 22, 1899 in Kentucky. Funeral services were Sunday at Leonard with burial in Burns Cemetery, Trenton, and a Masonic graveside service. He married Bonn ie Short on June 20, 1934 in Lubbock. Survived by his wife, his mother, two sons, a daughter, three brothers, a sister and six grandchildren.
In Texas, since World War II, governors and other statewide officials have been backed for four-year terms. The State Democratic Executive Committee chair Will D. Davis said Texans will vote on November 2 to approve a constitutional amendment extending terms to four years. Governor John Connally urges approval.
