Texas proposes expansion of State Employees Retirement System
On November 5 voters will decide three constitutional amendments including House Joint Resolution No. 37. If approved the bill would extend coverage to county retirement plan participants and include judicial district employees who receive state pay, and allow elected officials to be covered. The amendments keep the 5 percent state match but remove the $3 600 annual employee limit and base contributions on total pay. It would also lift the release of state contributions to the fund before other state aid or pensions are received.
