In Common School District 42 the Saturday election carried 7 to 1 in favor of consolidation with Whitewright Independent District, while Whitewright itself approved by 68 to 2. District 42 dissolves and joins Whitewright, ending decades of surrounding status. The move aims to expand high school opportunities and unify rural students with better schooling, with broad local support and optimism for improved future enrollment.
The Senate and House approved a larger service family allowance for servicemen’s spouses and children. The new rate is 50 dollars monthly for a wife, 30 dollars for the first child, and 20 dollars for each additional child, totaling 100 dollars for a wife and two children versus the previous 72 dollars.

The oil drill three miles east of Whitewright waits for water to test the oil seam. A nearby creek is dammed to supply water if rain comes, as the Whitewright water connection is costly and hard to obtain. C C Thrasher of Henderson, contractor, expects drilling soon once water is secured.

Two disc plows and two beams stolen from a tractor plow Sunday night near Whitewright were found Tuesday morning in a ditch along Ely road near J A Harper's home. Paul Taylor spotted the items in Johnson grass and alerted Mayor Echols who notified S D Fulton. The plows and beams, valued about 52 dollars, had been dismantled in Fulton's field and were only partially taken as the thieves fled when surprised.
Washington reports that draft-age men who failed to register or notify changes in address will be reclassified to 1-A after November 1 and report for induction. Delinquents face possible prosecutions with up to five years in prison or $10,000 fine.
The First National Bank has deposits topping $1,029,749.38 at Monday close, a milestone not reached since its founding over fifty years ago. Bank assets stood at $1,191,801.13, as officers praised the record amid local growth and past wartime comparisons.
