In Denison a rep works Thursdays 8 30 to noon excluding Nov 24 at the Denison Post Office. McKinney hours 9 30 to noon Mondays except Dec 26 at Chamber of Commerce.
Lloyd Alexander, manager of the Whitewright Gun, says grinding burs will replace burning to reduce smoke and fire hazard. He planned to switch this season but faced difficulties. farmers may use ground-up burs as a soil builder, or burning may continue to control the mess.
Eclectic Lodge No. 153 AF and AM Savoy celebrates its 100th anniversary with a 7 p.m. dinner and program in the school lunchroom. District Judge R. C. Vaughn will speak, Deputy Grand Master W. W. Boothe will present a 50 year plan to J. B. May, with Masons from Whitewright and nearby lodges attending.
The Texas Supreme Court on a unanimous 9 to 0 decision upheld using public funds for schools with both Negro and white students. It voided older segregation provisions but said immediate statewide desegregation is not required, leaving district by district decisions.

A constitutional amendment lengthening terms reduces county offices in 1956 to nine, with four year terms for key posts. Voters in July will choose county attorney sheriff tax collector and various precinct officials, noting many will begin four year terms on January 1 1957. Some incumbents will serve until December 31 1958 while others run in next year’s primaries.

Florida hotel owner C. V. Griffin offered free rooms to guests on any day the sun did not shine as part of Florida's Sunshine State promotion. He gave free accommodations to 236 guests from 17 states in September after cloudy days, and the offer extends through the year.
The Whitewright Tigers host the Cooper Bulldogs at Bryant Field to begin 13 A conference play. Cooper is the rival to beat to repeat their 13 A league win. Whitesboro tied 7 7 with Whitesboro Bearcats last Friday, a strong AA opponent in a year of Whitesboro promotion from 13 A. Cooper’s expected large fan delegation. Whitewright fans urged to rally home team.
In Dallas Senator Lyndon B. Johnson urged a Congress session to address farmer troubles. He noted overall prosperity but said farmers face rising mortgages while product prices fall. The visit followed his heart attack in July with a rapid recovery and a potential return to Washington next week.

Chester police report Mrs. Ethel Mae Broomall 41 killed her husband Frank 46 after a car crash left $500 damage to their new auto. She told officers she struck him in the head when he damaged the car, and he died Sunday night. Magistrate Lowry ordered her held without bail on a homicide charge.
A Whitewright meeting with the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Commerce and Mayor Russell Summers protested a county road program that bypasses Whitewright. Citizens denounced a farm-to-market loop intended to connect Tom Bean and Whitewright, urging the city to stick to the railroad right of way and resist the bypass. The Denison Chamber offered support and possible state talks for a square deal on the Whitewright Tom Bean road.
