The Trenton Tribune reports local cotton picking at two dollars per hundred in Trenton. Rumors of two fifty or higher rates elsewhere were investigated and found that many principal cotton counties pay only one fifty per hundred.
Lee Johnson the jeweler and optician promises perfect fit and complete satisfaction with his eyewear products.
City council approves more street lights on main business streets to reduce carnival like nights and ease traffic. Citizens urged to connect homes to the sewer system as costs decline and benefits rise, with emphasis on improving safety and property values. The Commercial Club notes Whitewright’s extensive charity contributions and reports on a Railroad Commission review of restoring double daily motor car service between Sherman and Commerce.
Mary Bell Savage, mother of William Morton Savage who died aboard the U S S Mexico in San Francisco Bay on September 7, receives a memorial fund check for 222 dollars from ship officers and crew. The body arrived September 14 and was buried September 15 at Vittitoe cemetery. Community members may be invited to add to the fund for a lasting monument. Also noted is a Missionary Society gathering at Mrs G C Bryant’s home with eighteen members and three visitors.
A Sherman oil company gin was destroyed by fire last Sunday morning. The loss was about 10000 dollars and is covered by insurance. The gin was under lease to Clyde Fitch.
Weather forces postponement of Fire Prevention and Fall Clean Up Day to next Thursday October 16. Residents urged to cut weeds assemble cans burn rubbish and prepare for an orderly effort. Homeowners should inspect flues and chimneys before lighting the first winter fire.
J. M. McMurry of this city and Marguerite Keesee of Houston wed last Friday morning at the bride’s sister’s home in Houston. They will reside at the Miss Emma Randle residence. The bride is daughter of H. B. Keesee of Houston and a refined young woman. the groom is son of local residents and a diligent bookkeeper at T. H. Lively dry goods. The Sun extends congratulations and best wishes.
The Odeon lists a week of screenings starting Thursday October 9 with Firing Line and ending Wednesday October 15 with Jack Pickford in In Wrong plus Paid in Advance and The Brat. Notable titles include Hearts Ease The Trap Oh Boy and June Caprice in filmusual comedy.
Two children of Charley and Mrs Cates in East Whitewright were ill with diphtheria for several days last week. A physician attended them and reported improvement in the following notes.
A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Gosnell on Wednesday morning, adding another member to the family.
Mrs. McDaniel Grandma Tillman McDaniel died Monday morning October 6 near Orangeville after forty to fifty years in the area. Funeral and burial were held at Burns cemetery Tuesday. She belonged to the Methodist church and reached about seventy years. Survived by husband and children Bert Burn McDaniel Mrs J N Carter Cora Roberts and Walter McDaniel.
The Baptist Woman's Missionary Society will meet Monday at 3 PM at the church for Bible study. Subject: The Period of the Missionary Labors of Paul and his Associates, Acts 13 to 28. Full attendance at the last meeting was appreciated and enjoyed. all are urged to attend next Monday to participate.
