An Ambrose woman Mrs Tom Cobble is recovering from a painful injury after a lawn mower kicked a tapped iron item into her calf. Her daughter Betty was mowing when the object hurtled across the yard and lodged in her leg requiring surgery at a Whitewright clinic.
The Grayson County Development Council held its monthly meeting at the American Legion Hall in Whitewright with hosts John Biggerstaff Clint Hennig and Russell Summers. Admiral W K Phillips presided as president and M K Weitzel served as secretary.
Washington reports the Eisenhower administration trimmed its surplus projection for the current fiscal year. Budget Director Maurice H. Stans said receipts will be 2.5 billion dollars lower and outlays 600 million higher than earlier expected, yielding a surplus of 1.1 billion instead of 4.2 billion.

Dixon Wrecking Yard started as a part time service in 1954 connected with Dixon Service Station. J B Dixon moved to highway 69 north in 1958, erected a large garage, and now offers overhauling, welding, and radiator work. They wreck about 50 cars yearly for parts exchanged with a Fort Worth service, with remaining metal sold to Greenville and foundry reuse. James Vaughn Dixon and Jack Mathis work there. the Whitewright Chamber of Commerce acknowledges their economic contribution.

He will arrive in Denison at 4 p m meet voters then visit Nixon Lodge HQ and be interviewed on KXII and Grayson radio stations.

Texas voters on November 8 will decide four constitutional amendments. One allows hospital districts in limited counties, another affects veterans land program financing, a third asks about annual legislative salaries, and the fourth empowers the state to regulate small loans. The four measures stem from the 56th Legislature, reflecting a slow period for amendments since World War II.
Mrs. Billy Muirhead Mrs. W H Russell and Mrs C E O Neal traveled to Tulsa Oklahoma Tuesday to support Mrs Bill Kohrs who had bone surgery on her foot. Kohrs, the former Miss Johnnie Nell Massey of Whitewright, suffered a leg injury in 1947 when a sled overturned pinning her leg. She spent weeks in Sherman and Dallas hospitals before and since. She is a niece of Mrs Russell and Mrs O Neal and C A Massey of Ely. She is housed in Room 277 St John’s Hospital Tulsa.
James McNeill Whistler was expelled from West Point after failing chemistry. The incident ended his cadet career and led him to pursue a future in art rather than military service.
Whitewright prepares for its United Fund drive as $1546 was reported by 9 am, 46.9 percent of the $3300 target. John Biggerstaff urges all committee members to finish early while S. T. Montgomery Jr. is away but expresses confidence Whitewright and nearby towns will reach the goal.
The Agriculture Department announced new eligibility changes for Title V farm housing loans. Any farm owner producing at least 400 dollars of commodities yearly may qualify if other criteria are met. Loans fund construction and repair of farm houses and service buildings, with county extension agents providing plans and publications.
Texas motorists paid 554,405,000 in state and federal gasol ine taxes and other automotive levies in 1959, per the Texas Mid- Continent Oil and Gas Association. Gasoline taxes topped the list with 182,286,000 state and 107,990,000 federal.
