Two Killed Touching Faulted Fence Near Lufkin Texas

J D Adams 62 and Carmen Bird 15 died Sunday after touching a high tension fence charged by a fallen power line near Lufkin. A pole blew down during a storm, breaking a high voltage wire that arced to the fence along a three quarter mile road spur, killing Adams in front of his home and Bird in a nearby field as he attempted to pass through the fence.

Battles Over Bat Roosts To Fight Sherman Mosquitoes

Sherman officials discussed at a city commission meeting a proposed mosquito control plan using bats. Dr. A R Campbell of San Antonio advocated bat roosts as an eradication method with cities like California cited as having success. City clerk Henderson noted bats as a local solution, citing a bat’s crawl containing five hundred mosquitoes.

15 Year Old Girl Survives Dome Drop At Church

In Hereford Texas November 13 Miss Dollie Ward a 15 year old senior suddenly fell through the church dome plaster twenty five feet to the floor narrowly missing the pulpit and landing upright. The 250 children practicing nearby scattered in panic with one girl fainting. Miss Ward sustained only bruises and a nervous shock.

Deaf mutes to build home near Denton Texas Silent Country Club

One hundred deaf residents from multiple Texas cities gathered in Waco to buy 100 acres along the Denton McKinney highway two and a half miles east of Denton. They plan a pecan orchard and pleasure resort named the Texas Silent Country Club with stock at 100 dollars a share costing 13 500 dollars. A home for elderly and dependent members will be built. The project originated with the Texas Society for the Deaf and was led by Prof. Troy Hill of the State School for the Deaf at Austin.

Masqueraders Stage First Meets In Whitewright

The Masqueraders held their first meet Thursday October 30 with a two act play Mr Bob. A second meeting followed Monday afternoon with a one act play After the Game. On November 17 the group will perform free in Pilot Grove and the first public Whitewright show is December 1 featuring three one act plays What Rosie Told the Tailor Ashes of Roses and Joint Owners in Spain.

Armistice Day Program Draws Large Whitewright Crowd

One of the largest fall crowds assembled in Whitewright on Armistice Day Saturday. Preston Everheart Post of the American Legion organized the celebration with a parade, songs, and a noon-to-midafternoon program at the athletic park. Speaker Will H. Evans of Bonham praised soldiers and the war’s end, while Leonard and Whitewright clashed in a 7 to 0 football game.

The Self Help Club of Kentucky town canned a beef on Nov 4 under the guidance of Mrs Clara Hall Kern county home demonstration agent. Oliver Wins With Durocs At Bonham

J R Oliver, breeder of Duroc Jersey hogs, won two first prizes one second and four championships with three hogs at the Fannin County Live Stock and Poultry Show in Bonham last week. Over the past two years he compiled twenty four ribbons and a loving cup from the National Duroc Jersey Record Association, and he backs Whitewright fairs next year to boost livestock shows.

Fatal pistol accident labeled on safety in Texas

Garland Alexander aged 20 is near death in Austin after a pistol fired while he pressed the muzzle to his forehead. He joked the gun was on safety before the explosion. his wife and companions witnessed the incident yesterday afternoon and he was rushed to a hospital where doctors believe the wound to be fatal.

Ezell Stepp To Hang After Plea Denied

Austin reports Ezell Stepp will be executed at McKinney next Friday for the murder of Hardy Mills. Governor Neff refused commutation, stating the record and petition did not justify setting aside the jury verdict or death penalty despite more than a thousand Collin County residents signing for clemency. The governor urged those opposed to the death penalty to seek relief from the Legislature.
