Funeral services for Mrs Maggie Lee Sears held at Canaan church
Mrs Maggie Lee Sears wife of H H Sears died Monday after a five week pneumonia at St Vincent's Sanitarium Sherman. Funeral Tuesday at 2 30 pm at Canaan church with Dr J F Fender in charge. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery. She was born July 1 1897 and would have turned 38. Survived by husband son Homer Lee two daughters Mary Joe Edith Mae mother Mrs J E Everheart and stepfather three brothers Marshall Jack Robert and one sister Mrs Ira Kirkpatrick plus Mrs Austin Stedham all present except Idaho brother. A Presbyterian church member active in church Sunday school and civic affairs, with a large attendance. Active pallbearers listed.

The Whitewright congregation learns the pews for the new Baptist Church will cost about 1700 dollars funded by William Fleming of Fort Worth. Fleming, a former Whitewright resident and independent oil operator, previously gave 1000 dollars to the building fund. Cornerstone laid with a large crowd present and dedication sermons planned by Dr. George W. Truett of Dallas.

German elected county surveyor in Grayson County
For the first time in years Grayson County elects a county surveyor by write in ballot. George German of this city received 161 votes with 154 for Democratic nominees and six for Republican nominees. Amendments favored locally included county reorganiz ation abolishing the fee system and home rule city charters with four year terms. The home rule charter amendment tied 58 to 58.

Nation's meat supply shrinks to 30 year low due to drought
Federal aid to livestock producers sharply reduced cattle numbers and hog supplies. By end of 1934 cattle will be about 57 million, near 1928 lows, with 7 million head bought by the government in 24 states. Hog production drops 25 to 30 percent, but prices rise and imports increase. Knife attack leaves Eugene Williams wounded in town
Eugene Williams, a local Black man, was cut and stabbed in fifteen places at a north town house after a dice game misunderstanding. Hugh Brown was charged with assault to murder, bond set at 1000 dollars, complaint filed by F. C. Mangrum in Justice Court. Two other Black men were fined for gambling in corporation court by Mayor F. M. Echols.

Barn and Contents Destroyed by Fire
A barn on the Grady Gillett farm in the Ely community burned Wednesday night at 11 30. Gillett carried 250 policy on the barn and no insurance on stored corn. Paul Taylor, a resident on the farm, lost 800 bushels of corn, several tons of hay, wagon, tools and harness with 750 policy.
