Cotton Growers Vote Soon on Bankhead Act Referendum

The Cotton Belt will vote on continuing the Bankhead compulsory control law next year. The referend um needs a two thirds majority and is to be submitted in about a month. The AAA plans questionnaires and county associations will discuss the cotton situation to inform voters.

Convention of the Christian Churches Held in Dallas

The twelfth annual one day convention of the Christian Churches of North Central Texas gathers about 150 churches and 15 000 members at Greenville Avenue Christian Church in Dallas next Tuesday November 6 starting at 10 o'clock. Delegates from Central Christian Church expected. Dr F J Cahill will preside. Miss Bertha Clawson of Tokio Japan will speak. she founded the Margaret N Long school for girls at Tokio in 1905. Other speakers include Patrick Henry Bessie Hart and Charles Marion Ross.

Detroit report from R L Polk confirms 1 564 690 new passenger cars registered in the first nine months of 1934 versus 1 204 950 in the same period 1933. Commercial registrations for the period reached 310 259 compared with 183 540 a year earlier.

Hauptmann denies cash given to him

Bruno Richard Hauptmann, in a statement released through defense investigator Harry Whitney, denies receiving the $50,000 ransom in the Lindbergh baby case. He asks Dr. John F. Condon to visit his Hunterdon County jail cell to discuss the matter and prove his innocence. Whitney quotes Hauptmann saying Thomas Jassie named him as the recipient, which Hauptmann claims is a mistake.

The Louisiana Baptist Association finished its 116th session electing A. E. Pardue moderator. Cornerstone for the new Whitewright Baptist Church will be laid Sunday at 3 pm with Dr. J. A. Presbyterian Men's Meet In Whitewright Planned

Plans for a Presbyterian men's convention to be held at Whitewright on November 19 were launched at a pastors conference at Denison First Presbyterian Church. The Whitewright meeting will cover Grayson and Fannin Counties with pastors from area churches attending. Attendees included Rev. L. S. Markham of Leonard as movement chairman, along with Dr. B. Wrenn Webb, Dr. J. F. Fender, Dr. W. E. Graham, Rev. C. E. Dodge, Dr. Burma, and Dr. J. S. Hodges.
