Changes in fuel saving methods for farming
R M Davis head of the Soil Conservation Service says farming shifts will occur as fuel shortages persist. Minimum tillage, including no till, emerges as the top fuel saver with high potential for feed grains, cereals, soybeans and cotton. In Texas it saves about 5 gallons per acre annually, totaling millions of gallons in recent farming, with long term gains projected. Improved irrigation efficiency could save over 230 million gallons yearly.
