El Paso report on Pvt Theodore F Orsteifer of Company C 810th Tank Destroyer Battalion formerly of Pennsylvania now at Fort Bliss. He inherited 154000, donated 134000 to the Government and 20000 in war bonds. Under the Class A pay reservation plan he cannot buy more war bonds until next year.

Axis forces retreat under heavy air and ground pressure in Africa
Allied forces pushed Axis desert troops into a disordered retreat across Western Egypt after twelve days of heavy fighting. General von Stumme was killed, 9,000 Axis prisoners were taken including Gen. von Thoma, with large Axis losses in planes, tanks, guns and shipping. Allied air losses were light.

Texas farmers saw a general price advance for September to October per the U S Department of Agriculture. Of 30 commodities, 18 rose, seven fell, five held, with cottonseed up 1.40 a ton and eggs up 2.8 a dozen. rice, cowpeas, sweet potatoes and grain sorghums declined.

Pearl Harbor Chaplain Identified Who Said Praise the Lord
Lt. Howell Forgy 34 a Navy chaplain from Haddonfield New Jersey identified as the source of the line Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition spoken during the December 7 1941 Pearl Harbor attack. Forgy described how gunners on a repairing heavy cruiser hauled ammunition by hand and he encouraged them with the phrase. He played college football at Muskingum College and joined the Navy in September 1940.
