Economy Motors Brings Volkswagens to Sherman Area
In the late 1950s Economy Motors, Inc. opened on Pecan Street in Sherman to sell Volkswagens. The dealership, now at 192 Highway 75, features a full service shop with seven factory trained mechanics and a complete parts department. The Bug remains top seller at $1884 with 27 mpg and 72 hp, while the station wagon and Square Back models follow. the staff includes J. E. Gotcher as president and owner, Bill Young as sales manager, Lu Col, Cliff Cox, Jimmy Meeks, and James Tally.
