Grayson College Pioneers Linked to Whitewright History
Grayson College operated from 1896 to 1904 with pioneers like Mr Westbrook and F E Butler among its leaders. The 1900 fire destroyed the brick building, replaced with an almost exact replica, and at its peak about 400 students attended from Texas and neighboring states. The college educated many locals and later influenced Denison Sherman Van Alstyne and Whitewright communities, with graduates going on to lead schools and publish in the region. The campus now hosts a modern gymnasium as Whitewright High School continues the site’s educational legacy.

Health Dept Urges Testing of Household Servants
The Texas State Department of Health warns that phoid fever dysentery diphtheria and other acute contagious diseases can spread from household staff to families. A typhoid carrier or venereal disease carrier serving or assisting in homes may transmit illness through contact with food and care of children. Employers should have their family physician regularly examine house servants and begin treatment promptly if disease is found, as the cost is small compared with illness and loss of life.
