The Texas State Department of Health warns that phoid fever, dysentery, diphtheria and other acute contagious diseases can spread quickly from household staff. A typhoid carrier or venereally infected caregiver can contaminate a family through contact with food and shared items. Employers should have their house servants examined regularly by their family physician and treat any illness promptly to prevent illness and deaths, noting costs are negligible compared with medical and loss risks.
