Deduction Rates On Excess Plantings of General Crops Lowered

COLLEGE STATION Farmers benefit from amendment to the new farm act lowering the deduction rate for overplanting general crops. Geo Slaughter chairing the Texas Agricultural Conservation Committee explains the rate drops from 8 to 5 times the payment per acre, increasing total farm payments by about 30 dollars for ten excess acres. The change applies to general soil depleting crops like corn, not cotton, with wheat calculated separately. Committee urges farmers to keep grain feed crop plantings within allotments to avoid surplus feed next fall.
