The Whitewright Sun invites Grayson and Fannin county residents to enter the continuing subscription contest. Sell subscriptions to earn 50 cents each plus points toward prizes including a 10 speed bike for 90 subscriptions and other bikes for 40 50 points. radios at 30 points. Call the Sun for details.
Baccalaureate is at 7 30 p m May 25 at the First United Methodist Church Bells with Donna Mullinix leading processional and recessional and Bells High School Choir performing under Mrs James Borin. The Rev Keith Gant will be featured speaker. Commencement is May 26 at 8 p m in the high school auditorium with Anita Martin delivering the valedictory and Cindy Arnold the salutatory. Principal James Borin will present awards with Supt O V Barker and Mrs J A Meir presenting diplomas. Other honors include Goldie Hall Mark Youree and David Mortensen.
Tom Bean High School will hold commencement on Friday May 23 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. County Superintendent Tim Kelley will deliver the keynote. Graduates include Bobby Bruton Donna Copley Deborah Dodson Linda Kincaid Gayle Langford Patricia Mehaffy Janice Neal Jeana Quinn Cindy Tillman Darla Watson Nancy Vowell Bobby Taylor Vicky Tribble Steve Bradshaw Rex Carpenter Gary Counts Bill Feagan Britt Gracy Cecil Gracy Mike Hale Frankie Jacques Marvin Orr Billy Robbins Billy Simmons Clay Williams Sharon Scarber. Linda Kincaid is valedictorian and Billy Robbins is salutatorian.
The HERO Club of WHS sponsored by Mrs. Janice Kemp hosted a Secret Grandmothers project. Students honored ladies around town with reminders and a final picnic on May 13 at the Whitewright Nursing Home, revealing the grandchildren. The Bells Senior Class plans Senior Day May 23 at Lake Texoma Lodge with several sponsors and helpers.

Sheriff Woody BlantonLabor announces the Grayson County Reserve Deputy Unit begins a 72 hour certification school June 16 and seeks volunteers. Interested applicants must apply by May 25 to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office. Applicants will undergo thorough background, fitness, and psychological checks.
Bobby Henderson was elected president of the Bells Booster Club last Wednesday. Other officers are Donald Booth, Mrs. Dot Moore, James Borin, C. V. Barker, Mrs. Weldon Fleming, Jimmy Cline and Mrs. June Ballard. Projects completed for the year included refinishing dressing rooms the football field press box repair and grounds improvements with the field house and concession stand painted.
Early Pennsylvania silk farming flourished briefly from 1826 to 1839 as silkworms fed on mulberry trees. Cold winters killed the trees, ending the industry as quickly as it appeared.
Principal Mr. Howard Hodge announces the 1975 eighth grade honor list. Valedictorian Kenny Buchanan leads with a 95.77 two year average and salutatorian Debbie Barnes follows at 95.67. several others exceed 90. Graduates include Joanna Hughes Sopha Patterson Jerry Spencer and Dena Wilson with 90 plus averages. The ceremony is set for May 28 at 8:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church.
Sarah Clark was named Outstanding Member of the Year at the Whitewright PTO meeting on May 13 for years of service and offices held. New officers were announced, funds from a tennis court project were updated, and bids were sought for a surrounding fence.
Texas Comptroller Bob Bullock issued 19.9 million in city sales tax rebates for May to 700 of 809 cities with one percent tax. Larger June allocations will cover quarterly returns from merchants since April 30. Whitewright receives 1815.02.
The 1975 Whitewright High School class will receive diplomas on Thursday May 29 at 8 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church Whitewright with Rev Bob Bryan as speaker. Names listed include Linda Atterberry Donna Baker Joe Ballard Shelia Ballard Mark Blanton and many others. The First Baptist elementary choir All Gods Children took a skating party to Sherman last Tuesday with 21 members and bus driver Ronnie Pennell.
William Anton Copeland of Whitewright joins Austin College 328 member class in commencement exercises Sunday. Copeland receives the bachelor of arts degree signaling the college’s 125th year closure.
Ben nie Binion, Grayson County native and Las Vegas gambling figure, hosted last week’s World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe Club. Final entrants paid $10,000 each with Texan Junior Whited among survivors. Binion reflects on luck, timing, and the gambler’s energy as crowds watch a display of million-dollar bills.
Linda Armstrong Boyer, news service manager at East Texas State University, is named press secretary to Congressman Ray Roberts of Texas Fourth District, with the role starting June 1.
