Graduation Edition Set For Tuesday

The Whitewright Sun announces a Graduation Senior Souvenir edition next week to honor all seniors and any college graduates. Advertising and items must be in the office by Monday May 24 with print slated for Tuesday due to graduation on Wednesday.

Awards Assembly Held Tuesday at Whitewright

The Whitewright annual awards assembly was held Tuesday with medals presented to top students. Recipients include Scott Wilson for mathematics and drafting, Julie Johnson for speech, Jayne Harper for English and business, Jim Clark for social studies and agriculture, Bev Blanton for H E C E, Kenny Buchanan for science, and Jan Neathery for home economics. Graduating seniors with a four year average of 90 or higher who completed four years at WHS received academic blankets: Betty Kay Geers, Jayne Harper, Karen Jarvis, Gina Judd, Chuck Pierce, and Brenda Thornhill.

Whitewright and Bells students joined about 850 graduates at East Texas State University Friday night. John E. Floyd earned a bachelor of science, Rancy Raylene Gray and Woodye Joe Gilliam received B S and B B A degrees. Distinguished Alumni honors went to Cecille Terry Hargrave, Robert W. Henson, and Rear Adm. Sam H. Moore.

Mrs Phillips Hosts White Wright Community Club Meeting

Mrs Viva Phillips opened the regular White Wright community club with a John Newton poem. Mrs Edith Grider led the pledge and meeting, with reports from Mrs Florence Lewis and the secretary Velma Sadler. Treasurer Winnie Bennett spoke, Bicentennial quilt plans were discussed, reading by Mrs Bennett, refreshment host Nevada Garner served 16 members and one visitor, door prize to Bertha Warren, next meeting May 27 hosted by Winnie Hamilton, secret pals rewarded.

Grayson Announces Registration for Summer School

Grayson County College opens registration for the first semester summer school on Monday May 24 in the business building. Classes start Tuesday May 25. Students register by last name in alphabetical blocks from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. with groups S-7 MA F-L and A-E.

Pritchard Earns Associate Degree From Murray State College

Lee Pritchard of Bells received an associate of science degree at Murray State College in Tishomingo Oxia during Thursday night commencement. He plans to study animal science at Texas A&M University in the fall and served two years on the livestock judging team and led the Agriculture Club. He was among ten graduates nominated for the Student Service Award.

Tom Bean Named Town Builder of Red River Valley
