Standard locomotives and freight cars ordered by Railroad Administration
The Railroad Administration will start delivering 1 025 locomotives in July with monthly deliveries through the year. Six standard types cover weights from 290000 to 540000 pounds, costing about 60 million dollars. An order for 100000 standard freight cars costs 250 to 300 million dollars, with negotiations for thousands more steel cars ongoing. The standard designs aim to unify hundreds of old locomotive varieties and over a thousand freight car styles.
