County School Supt. Daryl McAllister notes transfers must be renewed each year a student attends school outside the home district with a May 31 deadline. Parents urged to obtain forms from local superintendents and file with the county office.
Whitewright Independent School District and Kentuckytown Common School District voters will choose consolidation on Saturday May 14. Polls run 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the city election room and Kentuckytown schoolhouse. Election officers are R C Vestal C A Massey and O L Jones. Kentuckytown students already attend Whitewright schools and the measure would make Kentuckytown part of the Whitewright district.
Pilot Point Bearcats defeated Whitewright Tigers 13 to 1 at Legion Park in a best of three district title opener. Morrow earned the win with 3 hits allowed and 10 strikeouts. Hayes took the loss, surrendering 6 hits and 4 Ks.
The Census Bureau reports 1954 average employment at 61,200,000, about 1,000,000 below 1953. Unemployment averaged 3,200,000 or 5 percent of the labor force, peaking at 3,700,000 in February and March before easing. Early 1955 figures show 61,685,000 employed and 2,962,000 unemployed.
The menu lists meals for Monday through Friday featuring pressed ham stuffed eggs mashed potatoes tossed salad cherry shortcake cheese sandwiches potato chips mixed fruit salad doughnuts ice cream tuna salad lettuce pork and beans peach half jelly roll steak and gravy turnip greens mashed potatoes cookies fish sticks creamed corn green beans tomato slice doughnuts.
Cub Scouts of Den No 1 Pack 5 met Tuesday at 3 30 p m in the Cub's Den at Donnie McLauchlin's home. Mike Booker Jim Billner Jackie Meador Donnie McLauchlin Sammy Montgomery led pledges and the group worked on a forestry poster with Mrs Wayne McLauchlin as den mother and Mrs Cub Billner as assistant. They popped corn after the story on forestry and formed the living circle to dismiss.
The Rotary Club hosts its annual fish fry at 7 30 this Thursday at the Ely road Tom Sears pasture, the same site as the recent football barbecue. If weather fails, the event moves to the school lunch room per chairman Wilson Kaiser.

Lone Star Gas Company won three awards in the Public Utilities Advertising Association’s 1955 Better Copy Contest. Dallas advertising director L. S. Roberts and Chicago convention honors were announced. Mrs. Claribel Thompson received the employe newspaper award at the Chicago ceremony.
W. M. Bill Stockton of San Angelo was badly burned when a gas filled one room apartment ignited after he struck a match. The accident occurred at 7 15 p m behind a residence he owned with over half his body burned. He remained in surgery at Shannon Hospital in San Angelo as details were reported.
Nathaniel M Binion 72 died Sunday and funeral services were held Tuesday in Van Alstyne with burial at Pilot Grove Cemetery. He was a Pilot Grove longtime resident born in Grayson County. Survivors include his wife Mrs N M Binion of Frisco five sons Dellis of Chillicothe Leon of McKinney Willie of Frisco and Cecil of Keene two sisters Mrs Joe Burks of Van Alstyne and Mrs Lara Fagin of Decatur 21 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Secretary of State A. M. Muldrow will reappoint current Notary Publics and requires oath and bond filings with the County Clerk between June 1 and June 10 1955. New applicants must file May 1 to May 23 1955 to avoid delays, provide exact names and addresses, be 21 and a county resident, and not send fees to the secretary.
Fishhook Illinois resident Robert Earl Hughes who weighs over 900 pounds has traveled to Texas to join a circus tour. He claims the title of the world’s fattest man and will perform with the troupe.
State Health Officer Dr Henry A Holle warns of health risks from flies mosquitoes chiggers and other pests as warm weather returns. He urges removal of standing water and proper garbage disposal to cut disease spread and recommends screens and baths to reduce bites.
Whitewright High School will hold commencement exercises at 8 00 p m on Monday May 30 in the gymnasium with 20 seniors receiving diplomas. A baccalaureate service will be held Sunday May 29 at the First Methodist Church. House and Senate leaders reached a two year budget totaling 1.524 billion dollars with 210 million from general revenue. The plan raises about 30 million in new annual taxes and allocates 23 million for public education 10 million for higher education 2.5 million for junior colleges 14 million for public welfare 8 million for state hospitals and smaller sums for prisons departments and judicial retirement.
The Senate approved the pay raise surpassing 7.6 percent and sent the bill to the White House for possible veto. House passage was 328 to 66 with retroactive effect to March 1. The measure would cost $173 million in additional wages.
Justice of the Peace Travis Blakeslee set a court of inquiry for 11 a.m. Thursday to investigate the General Land Office. The probe follows a request from Attorney General John Ben Shepperd and Travis County Attorney Tom Blackwell into the agency that administers the $200 million permanent land fund.
Texas fishermen and boaters are drowning at an alarming rate this year, with 18 deaths reported by the Game and Fish Commission. Most losses stem from boats overturning due to power or rough water, the Sun notes.

In Grayson County eight people were killed and 57 injured in four months of state highway patrol investigations, up from six deaths and 41 injuries a year ago. There were 133 accidents and $76,867 property loss, with the 12 county Northeast Texas area totaling 444 accidents, 46 deaths, 209 injuries, and $287,713 in damage. Across the region 1,393 arrests were made for traffic violations and 137 licenses suspended under safety laws.
Bonham Texas. County Agent Zeke Green reports a large grasshopper outbreak in the blackland area. He warns farmers of potential damage comparable to last summer and recommends spraying per acre with one quart toaxaphone or Aldrin half pint or Dieldrin two thirds pint for control.
Berkeley figures show one billion comic books sold annually worth 100 million dollars. Edward L. Feder of the University of California finds 25 percent of adult high school graduates and 16 percent of adult college graduates read comics. He also notes 12 percent of teachers read them.
