A strong rainstorm from about 6:30 pm Monday stripped the roof from the W. T. Pritchett barn. Pritchett described the wind as the strongest he had seen, with waterspout like rains soaking his cotton rows within ten minutes. The cloud path left Ely and Whitewright soaked, leaving fields too wet to work midweek. Weekend rainfall totaled .32 inches, aiding crops overall.

Tentative Dates For Dedication Of County Building
Tentative dates Friday and Saturday May 29 and 30 are planned for the formal dedication of the new county building by the commissioners court. Judge Jake J. Loy announced the plan. County Agent B F Gray reports a new ruling for drought and seed crop years in Grayson County North Texas. Oats may be harvested and followed by legumes to qualify for soil conserving payments on diverted cotton land but without the $1.00 per acre soil building incentive. Negro Woman Aged 131 Applies for Pension
Sylvia King, a 131 year old negro woman reputedly Texas oldest resident, asks for old age assistance. Born in France on Christmas Day 1804, she was brought to the U S as a slave about 1840, later moved to Fayette County near LaGrange, now living on a farm southeast of Marlin. Married three times, last husband died at 78 twenty six years ago, she lives with her youngest great grandson, 34, and remains partly active despite senility, near blindness and deafness.

Injured in Auto Crash Near Presbyterian Church
Miss Jewell Medearis daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Medearis of near town was injured in a car truck collision at a street intersection near the Presbyterian Church. She suffered a head injury and was taken to a Sherman hospital but is reported to be recovering and may return home soon. Her mother and siblings received minor injuries. A second crash near Greenville injured Mrs Paul Manning of Leonard, who collided with a truck from Whitewright. Manning remains in Greenville hospital in serious condition.
