The Whitewright Parent Teacher Organization will hold its regular meeting Tuesday May 10 at 7 30 p m Special entertainment will be provided by music students of Mrs Charles Pierce A special tribute is planned for the graduating seniors Installation of new officers will be conducted at this meeting Everyone is urged to attend.
Whitewright school board, in a special meeting led by Supt. Dick Capps, discussed a proposed closed campus plan for next fall, two suspensions for marijuana possession, and tax revenue projections. Capps cited potential state aid increases but said the current $1.45 tax rate should fund operations. A bus incident led to assault charges against a mother who struck Principal Mac Woodruff. the student will continue bus riding with front-seat restrictions. Julie Johnson and Norma Stepp were named valedictorian and salutatorian for the 1977 graduating class, with Scott Wilson earning high honors and a Rotary scholarship recipient mark.
Whitewright Rotary heard Scoutmaster Butch Morgan outline Boy Scout aims citizenship character building and fitness. He announced a June summer camp June 6 to 11 and noted 10 scouts are enrolled in Austin College swimming course with strong swimmer credentials. Scott Wilson was introduced as the $500 Rotary scholar with high community reviews and will attend UT Austin for architectural engineering.
Mrs. Ke us Watson underwent surgery Monday at Wilson N. Jones hospital in Sherman. Mrs. Carrie Powell of Plainview, sister of Mrs. Mary Darwin, is in a hospital at Plainview. Bill Roberts returned home Saturday after surgery at Presbyterian hospital in Dallas.
News of the death of Monnie Biggerstaff at Abilene was reported with burial planned for Afton Cemetery in Afton.
Suzanne V. Cooper daughter of Mr and Mrs Bill Cooper of Whittewright was named to the Dean's List at Oklahoma Christian College in Oklahoma City for earning high GPA. She majors in English at a four year liberal arts college now in its 27th year offering 40 study areas and seven pre professional programs.
Mrs. Peggy Partridge is promoted to vice president in charge of lending at First National Bank in Whitewright, with Carol Marks succeeding her as vice president in charge of operations and Pat tester moving from secretary to cashier. Partridge joined in 1958, rising through roles to become lending auditor, while Marks and Jester also receive promotions. The bank also noted a forthcoming filling of a vacated vice president position after Charles Truksa’s resignation.
Jan Neathery daughter of Mr and Mrs Byron Neathery will receive the $500 Lions Club scholarship at the club meeting May 16. She has four years on the drill team two years Beta club and on the annual staff last year she won the homemaking award. She is senior class vice president has held class offices is president of the FHA chapter and secretary of Beta club. She was Football Sweetheart last fall and selection was based on scholastic ability and attitude.
Sam Montgomery was elected president of the board of the Gray son county United Way division at a meeting last week. Sandra Shaw became drive chairman for the 1978 campaign. Officers include Dickson as vice president Partridge secretary and Marks treasurer. Five three year term directors named Montgomery Sullivan Marks Bryant and Logan. Current directors list includes Presley Dyer Wor sham Riker Herber Dickson Smith Norwood Wilson Partridge. Fort Worth visit noted for local residents.
