Local social notes detail visits by Mrs. Nicholson, Miss Miller, and many others to Sherman from Leonard, Savoy, Dallas, and surrounding towns. The column notes moves to Whitewright, new births, egg prices at Fleming Grocery, and a free medical exam offer by Dr. J. B. White.
Mrs. Earl Hampton and Mrs. Marguerite Montgomery hosted a shower for Mrs. Lilburn Ross with 19 guests. The report also notes the marriage of Miss Dorothy Ryan to Roy Witt in Durant Oklahoma and plans for a county club picnic at Log Park.
Bible study at 7 30 p m scheduled for Thursday with choir practice following or preceding as noted in the church events.
The Methodist Church invites attendance at Sunday school and morning worship with Dr. George C. French preaching at 11 and quarterly conference at 2. The sermon at 8 pm, Mother’s Day observance planned for May 12, and youth meetings at 7 pm are highlighted with visitors welcome.
The Busy Bee Sewing Club met with Mrs. Floyd Bassett Tuesday afternoon. Twelve members and one visitor attended the meeting. A birthday shower was held for Mrs. Bassett and refreshments were served. A business meeting is planned for next Tuesday at Mrs. Leon Bennett’s home. All members urged to attend.
Kentuckytown, Pilot Grove and Whitewright Home Demonstration Clubs held an all day cake demonstration school at a local office on Thursday. Miss Mamie Hines county agent demonstrated scoring grading and cost estimation for cakes. About 40 members and visitors attended luncheon. The clubs plan to attend the county wide picnic of clubs at Loy Park on May 4. The Whitewright club will meet Thursday with Mrs. Lester Haile at 2 30 p m.
Mrs. E J Frailicks entertained Saturday afternoon honoring her cousin Miss Ruth Melugin on her birthday. The home was decorated with spring flowers and 19 guests enjoyed chicken salad sandwiches cake mints and punch. Assisting hostess Mrs Floyd Snodgrass served refreshments.
The Kentuckytown Home Demonstration Club met in a called session at Mrs. Floyd Harris home to catch up two missed meetings due to rain. The group voted to hold summer meetings at the school house and discussed plans for the season.
Guests from Dallas Fort Worth and Chickasha attend Sunday visits with the Wilson and Jarvis families. Whitewright hosts the 34th annual Dallas Chamber tour on May 10 with a 30 piece band and 70 business members. Lloyd Stowers helps Texas University debaters win the intersociety tournament. Ross May Warner Ray Baxter named for doctor and film star.
The Friday Literary Club gathered for its last session as Miss Lena Mae Gowdy received members. Mrs. Lucian LaRoe presided and the program focused on Barrie with readings, followed by installation of officers for the next biennium. Guests Miss Frances Bryant and Mrs. Newton Manning attended and reports on junior activities were shared.
A Sunday afternoon gathering at 2 30 at the Reed building Pentecostal Church invites the public. Song stars from Sherman Denison Trenton and Leonard will attend and a number of talks will be given.
W. J. Young, county agent, reports nearly all 1935 cotton contracts signed and sent to A and M College. About 5,500 contracts in 1935, up from 4,200 last year, covering roughly 75,000 acres versus 60,000 previously. Total county contracts, including corn, hogs, peanuts and wheat, near 6,200 with strong signing momentum credited to the county agent and aides. Bonham Favorite.
In Greenfield Massachusetts on Monday Robert Deniston of Burlington Maine was fined ten dollars after being found driving without a license while kissing his girlfriend every mile. Police Chief Edward J Redmond noted the unusual display attracted attention. A separate note mentions a self locking clamp invented to hold bed clothes at the foot of bedsteads.
