Formal Opening of Funeral Parlor in Whitewright
Glen Earnheart announces the formal opening of his new funeral parlor in Whitewright for Sunday afternoon from 1 to 6 p m. The building west of Ayres store houses a lobby reception room display room with 14 caskets and a vault, plus embalming and slumber rooms. Earnheart, in Trenton 18 years, will run the place with 24 hour ambulance service and a large combination hearse. He will keep his Trenton establishment with Grady Riley in charge and move to Whitewright when a Maple street residence is vacated. Local firms have purchased ad space welcoming Mr Earnheart and family. The public is invited to inspect the facilities, and a brokered Venetian blind install may soon enhance the lobby. The proprietor will also show the parlor to visitors unable to attend the Sunday event.

Young Man Ernest Blanton Killed by Lightning Sunday
Ernest Sam Blanton, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Blanton of Mahurin near Whitewright, was struck and killed by lightning at 6 20 p m Sunday while in a barn lot. His father and brother nearby rushed to help. he died despite revival efforts. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery after funeral at the family home Tuesday led by Rev. E F Lancaster. He leaves his parents, five brothers Roland Ewing Irving Emmett and Clarence all of Mahurin, and three sisters Mrs J L May Mrs Raymond Walt of Mahurin and Mrs Virgil Ward of Gainesville. He was born Sept 10 1916 in Uvalde County. The Blanton family previously had two sons rendered unconscious by lightning near Sabinal.

Mrs G C Brown Burned In Ryan Farm Accident
Mrs G C Brown suffered severe burns to arms and legs while lighting an oil stove at the Ryan farm near Whitewright. She was rushed to St Vincent's hospital in Sherman for first aid and treatment after gasoline ignited and clothes caught fire. Mr Brown and the daughter aided by smothering flames with bedclothing, likely saving her life. prognosis guarded but hopeful barring complications.

Tornadoes Kill 22 in Three States
Twenty two people died and over two hundred were injured as tornadoes, hail, and rain storms cut through Kansas Illinois Oklahoma Missouri and Arkansas. Across Kansas seven died and a hundred were injured at Columbus where a tornado damaged fifty buildings and 110 students were saved by a janitor and teachers. Illinois reported six killed and seventy eight injured along the Illinois River with Rushville Astoria and South Pekin centers of destruction. Oklahoma logged at least fourteen injured as four north eastern counties were hit and a frame school at Oglesby lost most of its pupils. Missouri saw three killed near Neelyville and one farmer dead near Stephens with five injured as Marion and Shelby counties suffered wind and hail damage. Cotton allotment hike proposed to ease 1938 act burdens
