Countywide $750000 Road Bond Ordered for Grayson County

County commissioners vote to pursue a $750000 bond issue to fund road improvements in Grayson County. $640000 targets farm to market roads, $110000 for Highway 75 right of way between Denison and Sherman. If defeated a separate road district could be formed.

Red Cross Drive Exceeds Quota In Whitewright Area

Mrs. E F Everheart reports 538 21 in Whitewright Bethel Pilot Grove and Kentuckytown against a 400 quota. Some final reports pending may raise the total. Women volunteers led the solicitation and local committees are praised for a fine showing and sustained over subscription.

Whitewright ISD to elect two trustees in April

Whitewright Independent School District will hold a trustee election on Saturday April 3 to fill two three year seats. Retiring members are R A Gillett who served nineteen years including thirteen as secretary and Clay Horton who served twelve years. From the consolidated Bethel and Blanks districts M W Williams and E W Fields are filed as candidates. Current board members include C J Meador president Roy Blanton F G Hoover Russell Summers and Alonzo Harper.

Funeral Services Held For Pfc. Elmer Joe Key

Funeral services were held at 1 30 p m Friday at the First Baptist Church for Pfc. Elmer Joe Key son of Mr and Mrs George Key with Rev Weldon R Drake and Rev E P Wootten officiating. Whitewright Post American Legion served as pallbearers and Sherman Post conducted military rites at West Hill Cemetery. Key died in China on September 25 1945 and was the first World War II casualty reburied in Whitewright.

Caraway Re-Elected Whitewright School Superintendent

B R Caraway, superintendent of Whitewright schools, was reelected by the board of trustees on Monday night completing his fifth term. He came from Prosper where he also served as superintendent and is a Desert community native and World War I veteran. He was the sole faculty member elected at the meeting with remaining positions to be filled after April trustees elections.

Trenton Road Work Sought in Fannin County Proposals

Rep. Ray Kirkpatrick and State Highway Engineer Dewitt C. Greer discussed two farm to market road proposals around Trenton Texas. A connecting road west to the Whitewright Blue Ridge road needs paving from the county line into Grayson County.
