Harney Benedict Dies In Idaho Former Whitewright Citizen
Harney Benedict aged 84 died in Caldwell Idaho last Friday. His body will be buried in Whitewright arriving Saturday. Funeral services are planned at Central Christian Church at 2 p m Sunday. Benedict born September 4 1861 in Woodville Kentucky moved to Whitewright in 1880 and later Idaho in 1924. He was a longtime local businessman and former dry goods store owner. Survived by three children Gaines Bow Boise S M Benedict of Boise and Hazel Glidewell Wichita sister Mrs Holland Dallas. Bow and Mrs Glidewell travel to Whitewright to claim the body.

Acreage Cuts Indicated for Texas Corn and Sorghum
The Agriculture Department reported Texas corn plantings at 3,921,000 acres for this season, down from 4,262,000 in 1945 and below the ten year average of 5,100,000. Texas sorghum plantings were 7,056,000 acres, versus 7,840,000 in 1945 and a ten year average of 6,755,000. National sorghum acreage totaled 14,787,000, down from 15,837,000 in 1945. Texas sweet potatoes are indicated at 65,000 acres, up from 53,000 in 1945 and above the ten year average of 59,000. Cotton planting was not covered.

Two Old Insurance Agencies Merge in Whitewright
The T. E. Barbee Insurance Agency and the S. H. Montgomery Insurance Agency announced a merger set for April 1 with a joint office at Barbee’s location. Barbee, in Whitewright for 49 years, began in 1897 and bought multiple agencies. Montgomery, owned by the late S. H. Montgomery, was carried on by his widow and later Mrs. W. E. LaRoe, daughter of the Montgomery family.

He has long worked on Grayson County road projects and ran previously two years ago, planning to meet all voters before the July 27 first primary. Rev R L Gilpin Takes Methodist Pastorate Here
Rev Robert Lawrence Gilpin new Methodist pastor in Whitewright will occupy the church pulpit Sunday. He and his family moved into the parsonage this week after replacing Rev Duke R Barron who went to Honey Grove. Gilpin, a MacMurray College graduate 1940, previously led Pampa and Grover assignments before Whitewright. He and his wife have two sons Larry G and David 18 months old and Mrs Gilpin’s mother Mrs W E Lucas of Amarillo is visiting. Both pastors were raised in West Texas.

Cuba will sell most of its 1946 sugar crop to the United States at 3.675 cents a pound in exchange for essential goods at 1942 price levels. L LaRoe & Company repaired and painted the building and leased it to Continental Oil for years. Johnson offers Conoco products, tires, tubes, batteries, and auto accessories with new lubricating equipment and washing and greasing services.
