After a heavy rainstorm that brought 2.1 inches by 7:30 this morning, Whitewright schools prepare for Western Week with events listed on the Reflector page 6. A barbecue Tuesday night and a variety show Friday night are among activities with advance ticket sales by students.
The Geers Clinic states only one measles case in Whitewright to date while chickenpox is widespread in the area. An earlier Sun story about a Cub Scout Blue and Gold banquet dating from 1948 contained an error, noting the 1961 event at the school lunch room with den mothers Mrs Barkley and Mrs Earnheart.
Randolph Community Improvement club members met to tidy up roadsides and prepare for the county judging day on Friday April 3. They collected debris, mowed patches, and straightened fences while Bob Cooper of Texas Power and Light discussed safety and resuscitation methods during the meeting attended by 35 members.
Brooks J. Keogh, president of the American National Cattlemen's Association, urged Congress to pass measures to stabilize beef imports. Speaking at the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association convention in Dallas, he warned that cheaper Australian and New Zealand beef threatens U.S. producers and could force a flood of cattle to market during a drought if imports rise further.
Charles R. Wilson 32 of Fort Worth and E W Bartley 35 of Fort Worth died when a light plane crashed in a wooded area near Valley View Tuesday night. Wilson, a Convair personnel official, was married to Gee Blackburn in 1960 and survived by a daughter, siblings, and his Bells and Texas connections. Graveside rites are planned at East Bells Cemetery at 3 p.m. today.
Funeral services were held in McKinney for Mrs. Algie Bell Lusk 83 who died Saturday after a long illness. She was mother of Leslie Lusk owner of Les's Cafe in Whitewright and burial followed at Restland Memorial Park. She was born January 6 1881 in Dallas County and married T. J. Lusk in 1899. Survivors include three sons four daughters 14 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Washington reports that Texas farmers received the second largest total government payments last fall, totaling 140,210,000. Iowa led with 151,841,000, followed by Texas, then Kansas at 112,369,000 and Nebraska at 106,937,000, covering programs from conservation to price support and diversion payments.
A letter to the editor from Uncle Dan of Tom Bean criticizes Navy shipyard spending on Old Ironsides and a $2.6 million hole near Hattiesburg, plus GAO shoe cost debates and projected costs. He mocks atomic tests and calls for resignations to restore public confidence, noting birth and burial cost surveys and his own dwindling prosperity.

The U S Chamber of Commerce says a 35 hour week would not work and would add jobless numbers unless pay was cut accordingly. It argues shorter weeks raise costs by 14 to 29 percent and lift prices while reducing consumption. AFL-CIO leader George Meany backs the 35 hour target for unions.
Cub Scout Den 3 with James and John Adams and others visited KXII TV on Miss Carol's club house day Monday. Den 2 met at Mrs. Worsham's home Tuesday with Jimmy Bryant as denner and Jimmy Worsham as assistant denner. A St Patrick's Day game and kite making occurred. Jimmy Worsham led the Pledge of Allegiance. Den mothers were Mrs. James Bryant and Mrs. Worsham.

The U S Weather Bureau says Texas tornadoes peak in May during 3 to 7 PM in North Central Texas. From 1916 to 1962 Texas logged 1 424 tornadoes with 302 in April 365 in May and 220 in June. Tornado paths average 250 yards wide with speeds up to 68 mph observed. Wichita Falls record showed 280 mph winds.
The Sophomore class will host a bake sale Saturday downtown near Walker's Pharmacy to fund Western Week king and queen candidates. It offers cakes pies and cookies and sells Bar-B-Q tickets with a grocery prize drawing for buyers. A wagon ride is planned Tuesday on the Trail Ride.

President Johnson asks Congress for a 962.5 million first year package to fund a broad war on poverty. He proposes the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to create the Office of Economic Opportunity led by Sargent Shriver and to deploy 3,000 to 5,000 Volunteers for America in programs focused on youth, education, and training within the Job Corps framework.
The Internal Revenue Service reports its new computer auditing has prompted at least 819 taxpayers to pay taxes owed. Caplin testified that corrected and delinquent returns totaling 3.9 million dollars from 819 filers arose after publicity for the master file system. Additional delinquents and amended returns totaling 510 were linked to the automation, with many cases dating back to 1918.
