Whitewright weighs permanent street improvements for the business district amid debate on charter amendment elections. The City Commission funds paving options, outlines cost sharing between city and property owners, and requires engineer surveys before bids.
The 76 year old retired Presbyterian minister Rev W A Kirkpatrick fell fifteen feet from a barn loft trap door while moving hay. He suffered severe bruises and a fractured rib but doctors worry not his condition. His daughters D Leon Harp San Antonio R E Hickman Mexia and Guy Dillon Hillsboro were at his bedside.
Billie Magar won the declamation contest held in the grade school auditorium to select a representative for the County Interscholastic League meet at Sherman. She will represent Whitewright grade school in the county contests. Also competing were Guy Hamilton Jr and Joe Thomas Meador.

J L Coleman and associates plan a test well on acreage near Leonard once weather permits. Derrick material moves to Valley Creek area for the drill. Fort Worth promoter C Andrade oversees the project.
The city estimates property owners would pay about six dollars per linear foot for 6 inch reinforced concrete street paving. State and county would likely share costs if the highway passes through the area, reducing city and owner burdens. A ten cent tax on value was used for school repairs and may support street improvements without raising overall tax rates.
Whitewright pioneer Win Frazier Sanders died at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman after a February fall caused a hip fracture. He was 100 percent recovered from the injury before a heart attack ended his life. He was born May 21 1854 in Tennessee and moved to Texas with his family in 1855. Survived by his wife Emma Aldridge two sons Charley and Ralph Sanders a daughter Mrs Jerome Sears six grandchildren and two brothers. Funeral services were held at his home with Rev J T Purvis officiating and burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. He lived in the Whitewright area for 31 years and was active in the Central Christian Church.
Blue Ridge, fifteen miles south of Whitewright, boasts both a woman doctor and a woman pharmacist. Mrs. J. O. Nelson passed the state board in San Antonio, one of thirty successful out of 188 applicants, and recently finished her pharmacy course. She, with her husband, runs a drug store. she also heads a Little Theatre. Mrs. Dr. Morrow practices medicine and operates a first class drug store in the city.

Charley Sanders of Dallas reported a Chevrolet sedan stolen from in front of his mother’s house Friday night. The car was found Tuesday in Denison, left on a street, undamaged except for a missing casing and about half a tank of gas. Constable George Bennett recovered it and notified Sanders.
Major H O D Segrave drove the Golden Arrow to 231.3646 miles an hour on the Daytona Beach speedway. He exceeded the prior record of 207.55 mph set by Ray Keech in 1920 and bested Segrave's own 203 mph mark from 1927.
The PTA will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday March 19 at 4 PM in the grammar school building. The program features songs by Fourth and Third Grade pupils, readings by Jack Yeager and Joe Thomas, a play by seven fourth graders, piano solo Joann Everheart, readings by Billy Magar, and a round table on child development led by Mrs C J Meador with several assistants.
BAY CITY A shotgun-wielding farm woman, Mrs. H. T. White of McCroskey, captured escaped State convict William Swanson after he crawled through a back window of her home. Swanson had eluded authorities since escaping Clemens State farm, allegedly driven by hunger.
Clarence Barron, shot and wounded on the Allen Smith plantation in Brazos bottom, is recovering at Bryan hospital. L. L. Tice, who surrendered to Sheriff J. H. Reed, swam the Brazos River, reached A M College, and phoned the sheriff. He claims self defense and is jailed in Caldwell on assault to murder charges.

Friday was observed as Parents Day by Whitewright schools. Fifty three visitors registered as displays of students work were shown in each room. First grade sand table depicted a Holland scene while third grade model village featured walks and a lake. Seventh grade manual training and sewing projects stood out under Miss Susie L Noe's supervision.
Mr and Mrs Neal Grant and Mr and Mrs J C Mc Duffie of Sherman escaped serious harm when their car was struck near Bells on the way to Bonham. Both vehicles wrecked and occupants were bruised and cut. The other car was driven by a minister, name not learned.
Dr. W C Cunningham a 64 year old physician was shot eight times by Marion E Dawson a 46 year old farmer in the Sturgeon community as Cunningham walked from his office to his home. Dawson surrendered to deputies after the Saturday morning shooting and was taken to Gainesville. Cunningham a longtime local doctor and former bank president was said to have been implicated in the death of Dawson’s son from throat disease.
At a Sherman directors meeting L. H. Young office the finance committee said 1600 of the 3500 goal has been raised. B B Wilbanks chairs the committee. Red Snapp named manager said strong material is in view and an exhibition game with the Chicago White Sox is being arranged.
A cream colored hearse containing the body of a 4 month old child was found abandoned in South Philadelphia after being stolen from Methodist Hospital. Police suspect bootleggers planned to use the hearse to haul liquor but abandoned it upon discovering the infant.
E H Kuhl an Oakland house painter emerged after five weeks in seclusion to reveal a $350000 fortune left by his mother in Oklahoma He said he was a witness in a Federal Court trial and feared threats from a mysterious man who was later identified as an attorney seeking to inform him of the inheritance.
Twenty eight members of the Whitewright Boy Scout Troop were guests of honor at a Rotary Club banquet. A. G. Mayse of Sherman spoke on the Scout movement in Grayson County and its value in character and leadership. Ben Burger noted Whitewright’s strong troop and cabin, funded by Ford Moore of Sherman. Scoutmaster Crosby and S. F. Cernosek introduced the Scouts.
Sherman reports Al vin Exum was returned to the county jail after being brought from Duncan Oklahoma by a deputy sheriff. An indictment charging murder in the fatal shooting of Seldon Taylor at Van Alstyne on March 3 was returned by a grand jury. Exum also faces liquor selling charges.
Sherman Chamber of Commerce and county farm and home agents announce six dairy farming institutes in Grayson County beginning Tuesday March 26. Lee Simmons says dairy farming and livestock specialists will speak and demonstrate. The program advances the Chamber’s major project for the year to develop the local dairy industry.
Texas voters will decide in the November 1929 election on a constitutional amendment to institute a regular 120 day legislative session. The plan divides the year into 30 day, 30 day, and 60 day periods with pay set at 10 dollars daily for 120 days and 5 dollars for overage days, mileage cut to 10 cents a mile. The first 30 days cover introducing bills, the next 30 cover committee review, and the final 60 cover full legislative consideration.
