Additional 1 Per Cent Penalty On Delinquent Taxes
Taxpayers who missed state and county taxes before February 1 can pay in March with a two per cent penalty. An additional one per cent penalty is added on the first day of April May and June. If paid by June the total is five per cent. After July 1 the penalty rises to eight per cent plus six per cent interest. Interest is not charged if paid before July 1. Unpaid taxes after July 1 must be redeemed from the state adding a cost. Redeemed certificates go to the State Comptroller for signing and sealing. Paying before July 1 saves much on 1936 delinquent taxes.
