Odd Fellows Cut County Representation For War Fund

At a Sherman meeting, sixteen Grayson County Odd Fellows lodges agreed to send a single representative to the Texas Grand Lodge this year, saving more than 10000 for war aid in France and elsewhere. The funds saved will be redirected to service efforts for the country.

Farmers Union Gin Co. Elects Board for Season

The Farmers Union Gin Co stockholders held the annual meeting Saturday afternoon at the gin office. Directors elected for the year are Kh aed Davenport W P Vaughn L P Sears J S Badgett and J A Stateville. The same board as last year. Plan to upgrade gin plant with new machinery for next season after ginning 2440 bales this season 986 bales custom ginned. No unpaid accounts remain at year end reflecting strong management and customer relations.

Third Liberty Loan Date Is Announced

Washington reports that on April 6, the first anniversary of U S entry into the war, the third Liberty loan will open. A three to four week campaign is planned with details on loan amount interest rate convertibility of prior bonds maturity and payment terms to be set after forthcoming legislation.

Seventeen Arrested On Vagrancy Charge

Sherman Texas March 4. Sheriff Tom W Roberts and Chief Bart Shipp warned last week. seventeen men were arrested Saturday night for vagrancy and jailed. Warrants issued for twenty four more men. Officials say every able man in Grayson County should begin work at once or be set to county road labor.

Flour Sale Limited to 12 Pounds Town Buyers 24 Country

Grayson County food administrator Swain received a telegram from Texas food administrator Peden stating that retail flour sales are again limited to 12 pounds per transaction for town consumers and 24 pounds for country consumers. The order is in effect, with consumption capped at 70 percent of prewar requirements and buyers to continue purchasing flour substitutes pound for pound.

War Department records show from first training in June to February 22, 1918, 51 aviation field fatalities in training flights and unauthorized flights. Over 100000 miles flown by student aviators with many learning to fly under instructor supervision before solo flights.

Airplane Motors Tested In Altitude Room

The Department of Commerce Bureau of Standards in Washington has created an altitude room to test airplane motors under simulated high altitude and low temperature conditions. An airtight concrete chamber with refrigerator coils and a large pump replicates reduced air pressure and cold, allowing motors to be observed without actual flight.

Sheriff Arrests In Local Option Violations In Sherman

Sherman Texas March 4. Sheriff Tom Roberts and his men have arrested twenty five men and jailed them since Saturday afternoon for violation of the local option law. Officers hold many more warrants and expect to arrest a large number, total sixty two warrants sworn out.
