Yankee School Marms See More Pay, Mates Out West
In Boston, sixty one New England school teachers, many women, plan to move west for higher pay and permission to marry on the job. Dr William B Spalding of Portland Oregon reports about twenty percent of next year's signees are from Boston and all but ten or twelve are women. The women were told marriage on the job is allowed if they choose.

Texas TB care faces bed shortages and staged sanatoriums
Texas faces urgent TB hospital needs with 4,000 patients awaiting hospitalization and fewer than 2,000 beds. In 1945 TB killed 2,923 in Texas, and a minimum standard requires 24 beds per annual death. The state operates two sanatoriums but they are inadequate for 5,000 new cases in 1946. Senate Bill 142 and House Bill 311 seek two state supported district sanatoriums in East and South Texas, with a proposed appropriation of 1.6 million dollars endorsed by multiple health groups.
