Speed Eats Gas and UPS Costs Third
Harold T. Hammond of the National Conservation Bureau warns moderation in speed saves fuel and wear on vehicles. At 45 mph oil gas tires cost about 2.25 cents per mile. at 55 mph it rises to 3.3 cents, with each hour saved worth over $2. Easy starts and stops double gas use when flashy and curb unnecessary wear. Intersections see over half of city injury accidents, making smooth driving safer and cheaper. Pre-trip car checks prevent delays and costly tow charges. Implementing moderate speed, easy starts, and maintenance yields money saved and fewer accidents.
