Rotary Club held Friday lunch in a school cafeteria with First Baptist Church women serving family style. No permanent meeting place yet as Craig's cafe closed last Thursday. President Charlie Ayres said meals will be served by Baptist volunteers for the next weeks and the club will meet in the lunch room again. S. T. Montgomery Jr. spoke on public school financing and the Texas Legislature teacher raise of about 8000 statewide, with local district paying roughly 1300.
Grover B. Smith about 75 died at 4:00 a.m. yesterday at Parkland Hospital Dallas after months of illness. He lived at 402 S Marlborough Dallas. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at Poole Funeral Home Dallas with burial in Restland Memorial Park. Survived by wife and four sons Grover B. Smith Jr Marvin Smith of Dallas David Smith of Phoenix and J B Smith in Germany with the Armed Forces.
Mrs. Sallie Allen died Tuesday in Delta County aged 71. Funeral services were held at Cannon Methodist Church with burial in Cannon Cemetery. Born in Mississippi on August 8, 1885, she lived many years in the Cannon community and was sister in law to Mrs. Frank Phillips and Mrs. D M Moon eyham of Whitewright.
Pierce Donaldson died Wednesday at his Bonham home. He was a nephew of the late R. B. Gordon of Whitewright and J. W. Gordon, route one.
Mrs D E McCoy reports Henry Berry died at his Blytheville Arkansas home on June 16 He and his wife lived in Whitewright two or three years ago and had many friends in the area.
The Board of Trade reports from a six year survey of 200000 women that higher income earns larger busts with many over 42 inches. It notes 850000 women have 42 inch plus busts and hips, while 1000 have 44 inch hips or larger.

The Labor Department says the consumer price index reached 119.6 percent of the 1947-49 average in May, up 0.03 percent from April and 3.6 percent from May 1956. Food prices led the gain with a 0.07 rise, while services edged up 0.04 and commodities fell equally, offsetting overall changes. The uptick benefits about one million workers with escalator wage contracts.
Governors from 48 states clashed over 12 month schools aimed at saving taxpayer money by better building use. Southern chiefs Timmerman and Hodges endorsed year round terms with mixed support from others citing objections by students and teachers.
Gov. Price Daniel's Traffic Safety Council vowed an all out war on speeders and drunken drivers at its first meeting. William L. McGill told the statewide conference that a four month period in 1957 produced the most widespread destruction in Texas. Tornadoes from Feb 16 to May 21 totaled 120 with major damage from floods and $91 million in total losses, likely surpassing $100 million.

Postmaster John Biggerstaff cites new fees for registered insured and other special services at the post office. Postage on letters and newspapers remains unchanged, while Congress may authorize future postage rate hikes. New charges list values for registered mail, insured mail, certified mail, money orders, return receipt, restricted delivery, special delivery, and special handling by weight.

Attorney general opinion confirms about four million dollars for teacher pay raises starting in September. The ruling says House Bill 103 takes effect August 22 and the comptroller may transfer one percent of the permanent school fund between August 22 and August 31.
