Fifteen Whitewright men and fifteen residents along the Whitewright Ely Ector road met at Craig's Cafe to honor Julian Montgomery of Austin. The group outlined plans to have the road declared a state highway after prior fundraising and a State Highway Commission presentation. They will seek a meeting with the Fannin County Commissioners Court to request state designation.

Insect Control Program Draws 200 at Kentuckytown Demo
The first of five Gray son County cotton insect control demonstrations drew over 200 farmers and veterans' farm class students to the Dickson farm at Kentuckytown. County agent Ben Cook and assistant entomologist Charles A. King Jr. led discussions on cotton pests and new insecticides while Johnny Batts of Durant conducted an airplane dusting demo despite high winds.

Washington Aeronautics Administrator D W Rentzel on Wednesday prohibited spreading of weed killing 2 4 D dust from airplanes. He issued the order after Agriculture Department complaints of drifting dust injuring cotton and other broadleaf crops. The House had urged action via a June 8 resolution introduced by Rep Clark W Thompson of Galveston. Jumping beans come from Mexico.

Farley and Hill purchased Bell Mercantile after a Friday 12 30 a m blaze severely damaged the Muirhead cafe and Bell grocery. The cafe suffered near total stock loss while Bell stock suffered water and smoke damage.
